Cookie & local storage policy

Last updated July 31, 2026

This page explains, plainly, what Just One More Meal stores in your browser and why. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies, and we don't sell or share browsing data with anyone. What we do store is small, functional, and listed in full below.

What we actually use

We use your browser's built-in storage (localStorage and sessionStorage) rather than traditional tracking cookies. The effect on you is the same — it's information saved on your device — so we're covering it here the way a cookie policy normally would.

WhatWhereWhyHow long
Sign-in session localStorage Keeps you logged into your account (diner or restaurant) so you're not re-entering your email every visit. Handled by our account provider, Supabase. Until you log out or clear browser data
"Already voted" flag localStorage Stops the same browser from voting "I'd go back" on the same story more than once. Indefinite (per story, per browser)
Background preference localStorage Remembers the visual theme you picked on your account page. Indefinite, until changed
"Near you" city guess sessionStorage Pre-selects the city filter using a one-time, edge-resolved location guess. We never see or store your IP address or exact location. Current browser session only
If you're a restaurant admin using the publishing dashboard, one more item applies to you only: a temporary admin session flag stored in sessionStorage while you're logged into the dashboard. It's cleared automatically when the tab closes.

What we don't do

Your choices

Everything above is functional — the site's core features (staying logged in, not double-voting, remembering a preference) depend on it, so there's no separate "reject non-essential" toggle to offer, because nothing here is non-essential in that sense. You can still clear it at any time through your browser's settings (usually under Privacy → Clear browsing data → Cookies and site data), which will log you out and reset your preferences.
